Our program explores the historical, cultural, and political landscape of Europe with a focus on Eastern Europe, and especially Romania. Drawing on ASU’s commitment to leverage its cultural and geographic diversity, the program invites students to connect global questions with local realities. Students will engage firsthand with Europe’s rich heritage and contemporary challenges through cultural visits, academic lectures, and discussions with European Union representatives, environmental officials, and leading academics. By fostering direct interaction with key societal actors, the program reflects our collaborative mission to catalyze social change and empower students to respond meaningfully to urgent global and regional issues.
By connecting Europe’s historical legacies with today’s ecological and geopolitical challenges, the center fosters interdisciplinary learning that is socially embedded and oriented toward sustainable, transformative futures.
Students will also explore EU and NATO expansion, regional security, and the evolving relationship between established and emerging democracies through immersive experiences and conversations with Romanian and Central European experts.
